This specialized branch of dentistry deals with treating the structures inside the teeth. In many cases, removing the inflamed nerve and the accompanying structures, as well as thoroughly cleaning and sealing the inner canal, can significantly prolong a tooth’s lifespan.
The success rate and in turn the retention of the tooth essentially depends on the precision of this treatment, usually involving a time-consuming and precise treatment of the root canals with the help of a binocular magnifier or a microscope. Completion of the treatment includes sealing of the root canal and quick and precise treatment of the retained tooth.
This type of treatment offers a very good alternative to tooth extraction and the then necessary replacement such as an implant, a dental bridge or dentures.
